GCDF Program Requirements
GCDF Program Creator Credentialing Entity Trainer
  • The National Career Development Association (NCDA) created and maintains the training curriculum and sets the certification requirements of the program, including the minimum number of hours of training to be completed. NCDA coordinates the GCDF program in tandem with the CCE and certified trainers (see the next two boxes)

  • NCDA's Requirements:

  • Completion of at least 80 hours of classroom training provided by a certified GCDF instructor, and

  • Completion of at least 40 hours of field work (in field, practical training), and

  • Possession of minimum levels of education and career development experience (visit www.ncda.org or www.cce-global.org for education and experience requirements)

  • Please note: the minimum number of career development experience hours required for the GCDF program should be understood as number of hours of direct career advising/career development facilitation experience (both group and one-on-one).

  • The Center for Credentialing and Education (CCE) processes certification applications submitted by GCDF candidates. The CCE sets the requirements for submitting GCDF certification applications, including the documentation required and the application fee. The CCE also maintains a registry of continuing education programs available for GCDFs working towards recertification. The CCE coordinates the GCDF program in tandem with NCDA and certified trainers (see the two adjoining boxes)

  • Visit the CCE's website (www.cce-global.org) to learn more about how to apply for GCDF certification.

  • Prospective GCDF candidates should visit all three administrative entities' websites in order to fully understand all of the program requirements

  • Certified Trainers (of which The Success Shop is one) offer the training portion of the GCDF certification and set the requirements for completing it, which can be higher than the NCDA's minimum requirements. The Success Shop offers the GCDF training in coordination with the NCDA, and upon completion of this training, individuals possessing the requisite experience and education (set by NCDA) are eligible to obtain GCDF certification by submitting an application to the CCE (visit the CCE website to view the certification requirements).

  • The Success Shop's Requirements:

  • 96 hours of classroom training, and

  • 40 hours of field work (in field, practical training), including three site visits and weekly message board discussions of reading assignments, and

  • 36 hours of homework over the entire program including some on Friday and Saturday nights between classes (passed out at 5:00 pm and due in class the next day), some of which requires internet access, and

  • 2 final projects

  • The GCDF program is an intensive training program for intermediate career development practitioners; it is equivalent to a Master's degree in terms of workload and content level.

  • Practitioners possessing less than intermediate expertise are welcome to join the class; however they should expect to spend longer than the anticipated amount of time on the reading and field work assignments.

  • Individuals who possess the required number of hours of experience for certification but whose career development experience does not consist mainly of direct career advising are strongly encouraged to read the course pre-readings (under course information to the left) before starting the class.
